At their December 10, 2020 Meeting, the Neville Township Board of Commissioners recognized the 3rd Annual “I Will” Volunteer Recognition Award recipients.
In 2018, the Board created this annual program to recognize the impact volunteers make in the Neville community. Each time a need arises, volunteers step forward to say “I WILL” serve. Most often without being asked, and too often without proper thanks. This program recognizes members or partner nominees from the two organizations who do so much to make Neville Island a special place to live, work and visit.
2020 Neville Green Nominee – GUIDO BATISTA (posthumously): Neville Green honored the memory and service of longtime resident and U.S. Marine Corp veteran Guido Batista. Mr. Batista was recognized as a “truly community-minded volunteer” who was a fixture at community events, always ready to respond to requests for help and who initiated his own frequent litter sweeps. He also served the community as a Neville Township Commissioner and Tax Collector.
2020 Neville Island Volunteer Fire Department’s Nominee – MARK STEWART AND THE NEVILLE TOWNSHIP PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT: The Neville Island VFD honored the exceptional and “over and above” services provided by Mark Stewart and the Neville Township Public Works Department. Although not volunteers, the efforts of Mark Stewart, Tom Clancy, Dave Lee, Todd Phillips, Al Stokes, and Tyler Chegas, improved the quality and operations of our volunteer fire service. Recent initiatives include upgrading hydrant connections, coordinating water repairs to protect public safety, and attending joint confined space training with the VFD to protect both agencies during emergency response to industry and utility emergencies.
Each honoree had their named added to the permanent plaque at the Municipal Building and received a $250.00 donation to the local charity of their choice. We ask everyone to thank our friends and neighbors who serve and promote positive participation in our Neville Island community.
